Owners' Counsel of America Announces New Texas Member Charles B. McFarland

Charles B. McFarland

Owners’ Counsel of America (OCA), a nationwide network of leading eminent domain attorneys, is pleased to announce the recent selection of Charles B. McFarland as the new member representative for the State of Texas.

Charles is the founding member of McFarland PLLC, a boutique law firm focused exclusively on eminent domain law and condemnation litigation. Although his firm is based in Houston, he is well-known throughout Texas for his fierce advocacy on behalf of landowners and his skill and experience in the courtroom. Charles achieved board certification by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization through trying condemnation cases on behalf of landowners, and he is a past president of the Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists, an organization established in 1986 to promote the availability, accessibility, and quality of the services of civil trial and appellate lawyers to the public.

Charles is an honors graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas School of Law, where he was Order of the Coif and a Keeton Fellow. He has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the publications Best Lawyers in America and Texas Super Lawyers for his expertise in the areas of Eminent Domain and Condemnation Law. He also holds the AV Preeminent Rating, Martindale- Hubbell’s highest possible rating for ethical standards and legal ability. Charles is a frequent speaker and panelist on the topic of Condemnation and Eminent Domain Law and has been a contributing author to the American Bar Association, the American Law Institute, and other organizations and publications.

Charles succeeds one of his mentors, H. Dixon Montague, a legend of the Texas eminent domain bar who passed away in 2018. "Dixon was held in the highest esteem and we will miss him," says OCA Executive Director Leslie Fields. "But we are delighted to have in Charles a member who shares Dixon's passion for protecting private landowners throughout the great state of Texas."

Prospective candidates for membership in Owners’ Counsel are thoroughly vetted based upon their ability, experience, results, and dedication to representing private property owners in eminent domain. Membership is invitation-only and restricted to one attorney from each state across the country.
